Nepal win first ODI in last-over thriller
Aug 4, 2018-Nepal secured a historic victory in their first-ever One Day International (ODI) Series beating the Netherlands by one run in a last over thriller to level the two-match affair 1-1 at the VRA Grounds in Amstelveen on Friday.Nepal, having won the toss, decided to bat first on a sunny day in Amstelveen.
Nepal’s batsmen looked to dominate the Dutch bowling attack from the beginning, but the hosts continued to take wickets at regular intervals.
But it was pacer Sompal Kami who rescued the innings to push Nepal’s score past 200 with his well calculated 61. Nepal could only muster 216.
Needing six runs to win from the last over bowled by Khadka, Klaassen took a single in the first ball before Van Meekeren played a dot in the second.
Meekeren scampered for a single in the third ball and the Dutch needed two to win from the last two when Klaassen managed a couple in the fourth.
Khadka kept a dot in fifth ball and in the dramatic last ball Klaassen hit straight to the stumps and ran for a single which could have at least tied the match. But Khadka uprooted the stumps to create history.
It was skipper Paras who claimed the last Dutch wicket to wrap up the Dutch innings and complete Nepal’s first victory in ODI cricket in the final ball of the match.
The Dutch needed two runs of the final ball but a quick Paras Khadka ran the last Netherlands pair out to register a one run victory for Nepal.
